About Us

Loungin Lizards is a small family owned business consisting of 4 people. The business was founded around the owner Mike Frost’s invention, The Porta-Shelf. For 40 years prior to opening Loungin Lizards, Mike and his wife Anita owned a transformer manufacturing company where Mike was the engineer. After a lifetime of boating Mike decided to dedicate his free time to coming up with a solution to bbqing on the lake. He often saw people using full size grills that would take up all the standing space, or grills on little brackets that hung over the edge but left nowhere to add your utensils or food and needed to be removed when docking. Having designed thousands of transformers Mike used his skills to design the Porta-Shelf to hang over the edge while holding 40lbs. After many prototypes Mike added a 2” lip to keep items from rolling off the edge, a cut out to clean the grease traps, a pegboard system along the front to hold baskets and hooks, and he decided to make the shelf slide so it didn’t need to be removed when docking. It was important to Mike that he made a shelf that didn’t damage the rail in any way and didn’t require tools while out on the water in order to use. Because Mike owned both a pontoon and a ski boat he wanted to make sure he could use the shelf on both, which is why he worked hard to make sure it could attach to round rails as well as square. After years of trying out prototypes Mike came up with the Porta-Shelf that is currently for sale today. The Porta-Shelf has a 20 year patent and is proudly made in the USA.
